FIRST GENERATION


1. Dr Larry Edward GUNDERSEN was born - living - in Detroit Wayne MI. He is the eldest of three boys in the family. He received a degree in B.S. - living - in Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH. He majored in chemistry, with a minor is mathematics. The first two, he resided on the campus of the University, and commuted to college, with his brother Dennis, the last two years of his undergraduate studies. He received a degree in M.S. - living - in University of Illinois, Urbana IL. He studied biochemistry under Professor Carl S. Vestling. At the end of Larry's first year in graduate school, Dr. Vestling accepted the position of Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Iowa. Larry completed one additional semester at Illinois, then moved to Iowa City, IA to complete his studies. Finishing one aspect of research on the enzyme, Lactate dehydrogenase, he wrote a thesis which was submitted back to the University of Illinois. He received a degree in Ph.D. - living - in University of Iowa, Iowa City IA. Larry completed another aspect of research on lactate dehydrogenase and completed a second thesis.
