Born January 4, 1941 in Joliet, IllinoisI had an undergraduate project with Stan Smith. After graduation I went to grad school at Yale and worked for Ken Wiberg (I was strongly "guided" in this by R.C. Fuson) and received my Ph.D. in 1967 and then worked for Dupont for 32 years.
Began taking cornet/trumpet lessons at age 6; Member of national championship grade school and high school bands.
Attended Joliet Township High School and graduated in 1958. Two of my classmates were Bruce Stangland and Al Christiiansen.
Attended Joliet Junior College the fall of 1958 - June 1959.
Attended the University of Illinois fall of 1959 - June 1962. Joined AXE in fall of 1960 (roommate Bruce Stangland) Received a scholarship from Proctor& Gamble, did a research project with Prof. Stanley Smith, graduated with high honors with a BS in Chemistry.
Attended Yale University Graduate School from fall of 1962 - May 1967. Worked for Prof. Kenneth Wiberg on the chemistry of small ring compounds (solvolysis and thermochemistry). Received my Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry in May 1967.
Joined the Dupont Co. at Jackson Laboratory on May 1, 1967 in Deep Water, NJ and worked for Dupont for 32 years in a variety of management jobs and moved to Charlotte, NC, Wilmington, DE, New York City, and back to Wilmington, DE. I held positions of Research Manager, District Sales Manager, Manufacturing manager, and Business Director among others over my career and retired September 1, 1999.
Married Martha Godshall August 21, 1965. We had two children: Mark born December 26, 1967; Judith Fenoglio Daw born March 30 1971, Married December 10, 1994, died of injuries from an automobile accident August 6, 1995.
I am very active in my church (Trinity Presbyterian) where I have served as a deacon and elder.
Since my retirement I spend more time doing volunteer work (Habitat for Humanity, Appalachia Service Project, Disaster Relief). enjoy cabinet making and playing some golf. Love to read and particularly enjoy american history and mysteries.
For the last 26 years my wife and I have lived in West Chester, PA.
