Biochemistry - Carl S. Vestling


After graduating from Bowling Green State University (Bowling Green, Ohio), Larry came to the Zeta house in fall of 1962; his roommate was Richard Muesing. He pledged ΑΧΣ that Fall. After living in the house for one semester, he got married in February of 1963 and moved into married student housing; he regularly attended Monday evening meetings.

Larry's research professor, Dr. Carl S Vestling, moved to become the Chairman of the Biochemistry at the University of Iowa during the summer of 1963. Larry stayed on at Illinois for another semester to complete most of his course work, then moved to Iowa at the beginning of 1964. He submitted a Master thesis to the University of Illinois, obtaining a M.S. from Illinois. He then completed his Ph.D. at Iowa.

After three years of post-doctoral research at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, California, Larry joined Mead Johnson and Company (Evansville, Indiana) in 1971. He worked at a number of both large and small pharmaceutical and medical device companies during his career, primarilary in regulatory affairs, dealing with the Food and Drug Administration. Larry retired from San Diego State University December 2008, where he was Director of Regulatory Affairs Programs; he helped launch and was directing a new Master of Science in Regulatory Affairs degree program.

Larry and his wife, Penny, live in Sun City West, Arizona. Combined, they have 6 children, and 10 grandchildren (7 grandsons, and 3 granddaughters); Larry has 4 children and 8 grandchildren, while had 2 daughters, and has 2 grandchildren.
