"Larry, thanks for the call and the note. I have been out of town, hence the tardy response. Indeed, I was at the U of I and a member of AXE from 1964-1968. I was an organic chemist and worked for Doug Applequist. After leaving Illinois, I joined 3M and retired in 2003 after 35 years of service."
Manley received his B.Sc. from the University of Alberta, with Honors, in Chemistry, he then came to the University of Illinois where he earned his Ph.D. in 1968. As he stated above, he joined 3M in St. Paul, MN as a Sr. Chemist, rapidly progressing through multiple levels of Technical Management to finally retire as Vice President, International Technical Operations.
Among many others, Manley is/has been a member of Sigma Xi, Phi Lambda Upsilon, Americal Chemical Society, St. Paul Curling Club, Dellwood Hills Golf Club, and St. Andrews Lutheran Church, obviously a well rounded individual. He is married, with two daughters.Through the Internet, I located Manley and left a voicemail for him. I received this brief response:
